Kya sells cookies for the orphanage in Haiti Print E-mail

Kya Johnson, age 7, is the daughter of Shamus and Jennifer. After hearing about the wonderful thing Kya did, we asked her mom to share this story with us. Here is Jennifer's account:

Last week after hearing about all of the efforts to help Haiti, Kya wanted to do something to help. As her mom, I was glad to see that she was caring about others. I asked her, "What can you do?"

She replied, "Send money."

"Where will you get this money?" I asked her.

She said, "I'll sell cocoa at the end of our driveway."

While I liked her idea of selling hot cocoa, I knew that she would have better luck with cookies at a show I was doing on Saturday, so I asked her if she thought cookies would be okay. We made cookies Friday afternoon with the help of Milo and Sena. On Saturday, Kya went with me to my show and went around telling people why she was selling cookies and she suggested a donation of 50 cents. She even charged her dad! Many gave a larger donation and she made almost $45 that day. She sold all the bags except the two that she wanted to keep.

Kya was really excited about how much she was making and when I gave her an estimate of how much of an impact she was making in feeding the orphans in Haiti, her eyes got as big as saucers and she wanted to do more.

Thank you, Kya, for putting your faith into action and caring for the needy!

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:35-40
