PASSIONS IN MINISTRY

Marcia Finke grew up in Palisade, Colorado (a town located approximately 50 miles east of the Utah border off Interstate 70).  Her father was a peach farmer and she has lots of memories thinning and packing peaches. 

Marcia received a degree in Elementary Education from William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri.  She has taught 2^nd and 3^rd grades in both the North Kansas City and Independence school districts.  (She is wonderful with our children in Children's Church!)

Marcia is married to Jerry and they have two grown daughters with families of their own.  They include Anne, Pat, Claire (11) and Mary Jane (5), and Paige, Garrick and Charlie (3).  "Spending time with my grandchildren is my most favorite thing to do."

Marcia's hobbies include gardening, reading, studying the bible and traveling.  Her favorite types of books are inspirational and biographies.  Marcia has had the opportunity to travel to such places as Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Israel, Alaska and Yellowstone. "I love to sightsee and experience the different cultures." 

Her trip to Israel was very memorable.  "Traveling to Israel gave me a different perspective.  I am able to connect the places I read about in my bible studying to the actual place now."  Marcia has also been to Las Vegas as well, which she describes as a "been there, done that" experience.  Some day she would also like to visit Europe.

Marcia's faith journey has evolved tremendously since coming to New Summit.  "That was during a time when I really began to understand just how much I needed to have God in my life."  Participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) has played a big role in Marcia's growth as well.  She became interested in BSF after hearing others talk about it and has now been doing their bible studies for 6 years.  "BSF has been huge for me in that I am studying different books of the bible more deeply than I ever have before." 

Marcia also credits being part of the Jabez Retreat Center as a huge faith builder for her.  "Just having to let go and trust that it would all work out required a big leap of faith on my part."
